Hurricane Relief Project - Providing much needed toiletry kits to those affected by Hurricane Katrina

We met in Robey Hall
to make up the health kits and then deliver them to UMCOR.

The Katrina disaster continues to bring unbelievable desolation to the lives of the victims and refugees as God’s people are relocated to other areas of the country away from their homes. First Church Youth is committed to continuing support for the folks from the Gulf as they try to recover

Over Labor Day we made 2,037 health kits with help from other youth from Cokesbury UMC, Cornerstone Baptist, people from First Church and from the local community. These were delivered to the distribution center the very next day. Then many more were made on September 17th.

A Health Kit contains specific items:

1 hand towel (15" x 25" up to 17" x 27")
1 wash cloth
1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
1 fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
1 stick deodorant
1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz and up)
1 toothbrush (single brush only in original wrapper; no child-sized brushes)
1 large tube of toothpaste (4.5 or larger, expiration date must be 6 months or longer in
